Microsoft Rolls Out GPT‑5 Across Copilot, GitHub and Azure

Microsoft announced that GPT‑5, OpenAI’s latest AI system, is being integrated into a wide range of its products. Trained on Azure, the GPT‑5 suite includes advanced reasoning models and a smart, efficient model, allowing the company’s real‑time router to choose the best tool for each task. The integration means consumer and enterprise users of Microsoft 365 Copilot and Microsoft Copilot can tackle complex questions while receiving fast, creative responses for everyday tasks.

The router automatically determines which model is appropriate, so users do not need to select between GPT‑5’s reasoning and lightweight variants. Developers also benefit: GitHub Copilot and Visual Studio Code now offer GPT‑5 for writing, testing and deploying code, enabling completion of longer and more complex coding tasks. The models are also available in Azure AI Foundry, where a built‑in model router evaluates each prompt and selects the optimal model based on the task’s complexity and cost efficiency.

Microsoft emphasised safety, noting that its AI Red Team tested the GPT‑5 reasoning model and found it exhibits one of the strongest safety profiles among OpenAI’s prior models, resisting attacks such as malware generation and fraud. The GPT‑5 upgrades are available immediately across consumer, developer and enterprise offerings, bringing increased intelligence and advanced reasoning to the Microsoft ecosystem.
